1st Annual PFD Golf Tournament  - On October 10, 2009 PFD held its first annual golf tournament. 42 golfers showed up for a great day of golf. Thanks to all the businesses and donors that sponsored the tournament and all the volunteers that helped out during the day. Special thanks goes out to George Sabo and the staff at Highland Greens. Serious Vehicle Accident / Extrication – On August 30, 2009 PFD responded to route 68 near Cook Road, after there was a 911 call reporting a vehicle accident involving a tree that fell onto a car. PFD Firefighters and EMS personnel at the time of the incident were staged at the Car Show in the center of town and as a result made it to the accident scene in less than 2 minutes. Upon arrival Firefighters had to cut away a large tree from the vehicle to gain access to the driver. The driver was transported to an area Hospital and unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. The passenger was not seriously injured in the accident.

State Fire Fighters Convention 09 – PFD recently participated in the CT State Fire Fighters Convention held in the Litchfield Hills and hosted by the Litchfield, Bantam, Morris and Northfield Fire Departments. Click Here to See More Pics

Local Strong Man Trains With PFD – Nationally known Strongman Competitor Derek Poundstone was recently training with the Prospect Fire Department. No…he was not participating in fire training he was actually pulling PFD Engine 5 while training for the upcoming strongest man competition in Bolton. Fire Prevention Week – As in the past PFD was busy providing education and training during Fire Prevention Week. Firefighters and EMS personnel visited the elementary schools and daycare centers throughout Prospect on Monday. On Thursday PFD hosted an open house with open access to the fire house and fire apparatus. Poster contest winners from the schools were also awarded trophys for their exceptional artwork. Great Job to all the contest winners and all the students that participated in the poster contest.

Live Fire Training –PFD recently conducted live burns and extrication involving a motor vehicle on both the day and night shift training days. New firefighters were trained on proper response procedures while veteran firefighters kept their skills sharp by participating in the drill. Click Here to See More Pics

Important Message About Your Home! – PFD reminds all residents to clearly display your house number. House numbers need to be visible from the street for responding Fire / EMS units to quickly locate your home in the event you need us. Please keep in mind that we may be trying to find your home at night or during bad weather so the more visible the number is the quicker we can respond.

MRT Medical Response Technician Certification Class Check back frequently, PFD plans on holding another MRT class in the near future. MRTs respond to all medical emergencies in town and also assist on fire calls as needed.

Vehicle Explosion (June 3, 2009) - At 3:45pm PFD responded to a report of a vehicle explosion with injuries. Upon arrival Firefighters and EMS personnel discovered a vehicle that had in fact exploded due to a leaking acetylene tank in the trunk of the vehicle. Firefighters extinguished any remaining fire left over from the explosion. Although there was an occupant in the vehicle at the time of the explosion there were no serious injuries. Squad 3, Engine 5, EMS 1 and 2 responded to this incident. Click here for more pictures

Vehicle Fire (July 3, 2009) - PFD responded to a report of a vehicle fire in the Oliver’s / CVS plaza. The first due engine (Squad 3) reported heavy smoke and a partially involved vehicle fire contained in the engine compartment. Firefighters obtained a quick knockdown and the fire was contained to the engine compartment of the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

MRT Medical Response Technician Certification Class Completed (July 26, 2009) - The Medical Response Technician (MRT) training class concluded with State practical and written examinations. Several graduates who are now certified MRTs have applied to become active members of PFD. Tentative plans to hold another MRT training class are slated for Sept-Oct. Please check the website for future updates.

Vehicle Extrication Training (May 16, 2009) - PFD hosted an Extrication Training Seminar by Nationally Recognized Trainer Todd Hoffman. Training was for First Responders including Fire Fighters, EMS, Police and Public Servants. The training combined classroom and hands on extrication training. Topics incorporated new Hybrid vehicles, alternative fuel vehicles, fires, scene safety and airbag / restraint systems issues. Click here to see training pictures

CPR Certification Class (Jan 2009) – PFD hosted a CPR certification class for Region 16 faculty members. Region 16 schools received defibrillators and as a result faculty were trained in their use in the event of an emergency. Click here to see training pictures
