  • Instructions – To join PFD you must be a resident of Prospect. You must reach the age of 18 at the time you are sworn in as a probationary member. After submitting an application it will be reviewed and you will be called in shortly thereafter for an interview. Upon completion of the interview you will provide a medical release from your doctor stating you are fit for training and duty as either a firefighter / EMS personnel or both. A 25.00 application fee is due at the time of interview.
  • Probationary Firefighters who are sworn in will be required to complete The State of Connecticut Firefighter I and Hazmat Certifications.
    • Firefighter training usually occurs at any one of the State Regional Fire Training Schools. PFD usually utilizes the Wolcott State Fire School but any State Fire Training School providing FF1 / Hazmat Certifications is acceptable.
  • Probationary EMS Personnel who are sworn in will be required to take the State of Connecticut Certification as a MRT (Medical Response Technician) or The National Registry (and State of Connecticut) Training as an EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician).
    • EMS personnel will complete the State of Connecticut Certification as a Medical Response Technician (MRT) or Emergency Medical Technician Certification (EMT-B).
  • Training dates, locations and requirements are arranged by the Training Officer. More info will be provided at the time of interview.
